Board of Assessment Appeals

The Board of Assessment Appeals is formerly known as the Board of Tax Review.

The Board of Assessment Appeals will be calling Special Meetings to meet with applicants who have submitted an application to hear appeals by appointment only.

Meeting dates are as follows:

Saturday March 9, 2024 at 9:00AM

Saturday March 16, 2024 at 9:15AM

Thursday March 21, 2024 at 1:00PM

Saturday March 23, 2024 at 9:00AM

Tuesday March 26, 2024 at 1:00PM

The application to appeal period for the October 1, 2023 Grand List has closed. The deadline to appeal was February 20, 2024 by 4:00PM (close of business day).

Pursuant to P.A. 95-283 of the State of Connecticut, a written application to appeal an assessment must be filed on or before the due date listed on the application.

Who May Appeal? Individuals or organizations claiming to be aggrieved by the actions of the town Assessor may appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals.

Please complete section ‘APPLICATION TO APPEAL’ (you can access the application by using the blue "CLICK HERE" button) and return to the address below by the due date of Tuesday February 20, 2024 at 4:00PM (close of business day). Applications sent via USPS must be received by February 20, 2024.

Board of Assessment Appeal hearings will be held in March 2024, Applicants will be contacted to set up a convenient meeting time.  If you have concerns about your appointment,  please call 860-379-3389

Board of Assessment Appeals meetings are open to the public.

Please remember: the Board of Assessment Appeals may decrease, increase or not change an assessment. Board members will only consider appeals of assessments based on the facts presented that affect value.

Per CGS 12-111 the Board has the right to not conduct a hearing on commercial, industrial, utility or apartment property with an assessed value greater than 1,000,000.

Taxpayers may choose to have an attorney represent them. If you are not satisfied with the decision of the BAA you may appeal to the Superior Court. Appeals to the court must be filed with two (2) months of the mailing of the notice of the Board of Assessment Appeals action.
