I am a life-long horse person who has taken care of my own and others’ horses for nearly 30 years. I had show hunters and started Taylor Farm when it became clear that options for retiring them when they were injured or their careers ended were very limited. I originally had only my own horses, but quickly added my trainer’s and friends', and the farm grew.

I live at the farm and take care of the horses and our 37 acres.

Monthly board includes grain, second cut hay year round, daily mucking, making appointments and holding for the vet, dentist and farrier, and basic first aid.

The majority of the horses live in grass fields with large matted sheds for shelter, generally in groups of 3-7. In the summer, the sheds have fans on timers, and every horse gets fly spray and wears a fly mask (washed weekly). In the colder months, horses wear sheets or blankets, and there is no charge for blanketing. Every paddock has automatic waterers with heaters. I generally keep the geldings and mares in separate groups.

I have a small barn with stalls which open to a large grass field. The stalls are communal, just like the sheds, but the horses who live in the barn are usually my more fragile ones (e.g., oldest, or needing daily medication, or ill). The barn also has two lay up stalls with small individual turn outs for horses who are injured or recuperating. The barn has a wash stall and hot water, and a heated tack room.

My current residents range in age from 11 to early 30s, and they have had lives as performance horses (hunter/jumper/dressage), trail horses, pets and pleasure horses. Most are 22-30. I have many residents who have been here for five or more years. Some owners visit often, some less so. I stay in touch via phone, text, email and Facebook (Taylor Farm LLC).

There is a full perimeter fence around the farm, with gates at the entrance, so it is safe and very quiet. New Hartford is a small town which is very supportive of farms, and while we have neighbors, we also have land trust property on three sides, so we will never have development there.

We work hard to keep the farm safe and comfortable for the horses, and every year do upgrades and improvements. We are currently planning a new barn for 2020, which will add about 12 pasture spaces, and additional lay up stalls. This barn will utilize an empty 10 acre grass field we have.

Retiring your beloved horse is a tough decision, so we encourage visits to see if the set up will suit your horse. Please get in touch for more information on costs and available space.
