Beekley Historical Lecture Series: The Eyes of the World are Upon You: The Normandy Landing
Address
Hamish Lutris, Associate Professor of History at Capital Community College returns to the Beekley Community Library for another fascinating historical lecture series.
On June 6, 1944, the largest military operation the world had ever witnessed saw the breach and destruction of what Hitler called “Fortress Europe.” Hundreds of thousands of men, women, and machines were involved in this action, which marked the beginning of the end of Hitler’s attempt to dominate Europe and ‘cleanse’ it of undesirable elements. This talk will explore both the allied and German philosophies concerning the landings, their preparations, the operation itself, and the hard-bitten, heroic efforts from American, British, and Canadian forces.
