StoryWalk for kids (and grandkids!)

2019 Lee Tangarone StoryWalk has been posted during the month of July in the Children’s Garden of the Beekley Library in the center of New Hartford. This year’s selection is Noisy Birds, by John Himmelman. Take a walk and read a book!

What’s a StoryWalk?

A StoryWalk is a self-guided strolling and reading experience for kids of all ages. Pages of a book are mounted on posters and displayed in order so that participants can follow along and read as they stroll. The StoryWalk concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

The New Hartford StoryWalk takes place annually in July to honor Lee Tangarone, a long-time resident and civic leader, who died in 2012.  It is constructed by Lee’s granddaughter, Corrin Tangarone, with support from Lee’s neighbor, Fran Stoffer.

Program Saturday, July 27

Although the StoryWalk is free and accessible to all throughout the month of July,  Fran and Corrin will present a culminating program, based on Noisy Birds, on July 27 at 10:00 in the Licia and Mason Beekley Community Library in New Hartford center. The program will include activities for kids ages 2-10. Both the event and the StoryWalk are free and open to the public.
