Carpenter Road Bridge under construction

Carpenter Road Bridge

November 2, 2018

My office has received numerous questions regarding the status of Carpenter Road Bridge.
Due to issues with permits and dispute with the contractor, work was shut down at the site for an extended period of time. However, things have progressed to a point where agreement to begin work was reached and there has been some progress with moving this project forward.
You may have noticed that there has been some activity down at the site these past couple of weeks.  Temporary relocation of utilities (phone, cable and electricity) was needed in order to be able to use a large crane to install "sheet piling" in the riverbed.
This sheetpiling is used to keep water out of the actual construction area so that removal of the old culvert, followed by the installation of a new pre-cast concrete culvert can be completed.
Dewatering of the site is essential in order to be able to place the new structure.
Mother Nature holds the timeline of completion in her hands. The excessive rain that has been prevalent these past few months has interferred with being able to get the job done.  Hopefully, there wil be some dry weather in the coming days/weeks so that the new bridge can be installed before winter shut down.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 860-379-3389 or stop by my office at Town Hall to chat.
