NOTICE: The Building Inspector will be on vacation beginning Monday, February 9, 2026 through Tuesday, February 24, 2026. NO INSPECTIONS will be available during this timeframe.  Plan Accordingly
Do not proceed with work if an inspection is necessary for the next step - the inspection will need to wait for the Building Official to return to work.  Do not risk having to "tear work apart" to allow access to inspect.

ONLINE PERMIT APPLICATION

Please Note: Permit Applications can be submitted any time;  However, NO WORK can be started without a SIGNED and APPROVED building permit.
Completing an application for a permit is not authorization to begin work.  You MUST wait for your permit to be approved prior to starting any work.

Jerry is the full time Building Official for the Town of New Hartford.  Jerry's role as Building Official requires him to be out of the office for a great portion of the day.  If you have a specific question - it is best to call ahead and set up an appointment to speak directly with him.  You can call and speak with the Office Assistant, Chris, at 860-379-8830 or leave a message if she is unavailable.

The Building Official works with home owners, contractors, builders, and General Contractors for plan reviews, permits and on-site inspections to determine compliance with the Connecticut Building Code.

Before you decide to build or renovate, come in to Town Hall and this office will be happy to give you the help and information needed to comply with the building codes, zoning regulations, and inland/wetland regulations. This office cannot provide technical information or advice. It can however, steer you in a direction so that you can achieve your ultimate plan.

The Land Use Admin provides administrative assistance to the Building Official,  She will take messages and forward concerns to Jerry, but please note that she cannot answer questions specifically related to your project.  If you would like to submit an inquiry or information via e-mail, please click here.  Your inquiry will be forwarded to the appropriate building/zoning official.
