Dirt road snow removal presents challenges to Highway Department

For those residents who live or have to travel on any of the local dirt roads, please use caution on these roads.  Dirt roads are particularly difficult to maintain during periods of inconsistent temperatures.  The road base is currently not frozen enough to allow for use of a snow plow blade to fully remove the snow covering.  The blade will dig into the dirt surface and cause ruts in the road.  Therefore, a covering of snow will be left on the road.
If you have concerns, please call First Selectman Dan Jerram at 860-379-3389.
