Event Date:
Tuesday, October 5, 2021 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

The purpose of this hour is to give a brief history of poetry, an explanation of its main parts, and a review of three poems from different periods, Participants should read three poems before the program: Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, Langston Hughes “Mother to Son” and Bob Dylan's “With God On Our Side.” We will read these three poems aloud and review them together. Finally, Jim Kelleher will narrate his own life as a poet and what that means for him.

Jim Kelleher has published 3 books of poetry and individual poems in Yankee, The Christian Science Monitor, The Country And Abroad, the Litchfield County Times and many other venues. He teaches Literature and Composition at NWCC and does workshops at libraries, museums, and schools. Jim believes poetry should be accessible to all readers, and really is accessible to all, not exclusively to academia.
